I've been having an ongoing debate with my eldest child about the seasons. I've been telling him for a couple months that it is Winter, but he replies "No". Instead he insists that it is just rainy and not Winter. "It snows in Winter, Daddy," like I should know something as simple and basic as that. I must agree that it hasn't been very winter-like this year, and we haven't even had a threat of snow up until 2 days ago.
I was skeptical that it would come through. As I checked out in the grocery line (we were buying our weekly groceries not snow forecasted panic shopping), I joked with the checker about how the "meteorologists" just like to get on TV and show their maps and dopplers even if the chance of snow was just a chance. We were sure that the forecast of snow was just wishful thinking, and at 45 degrees and raining it wasn't going to happen.
Well about 8:30 pm on Sunday evening Carter got up for no good reason, but as we were putting him back to bed, he pointed outside. SNOW! I got a heavy helping of "I told you so" from both of my red headed-know-it-alls, and Carter asked if the he had to go back to sleep since it was snowing.
The snow window was brief, b/c 50 degree weather was on its way. So we made quick work in the morning to take advantage. With only a light dusting and not sled-worthy we opted for riding bikes, and making "bike tracks" in the snow. I also decided it was time to learn the skill of throwing a snow ball. He caught on quickly and was very accurate at hitting Grandpa's newly hung bird feeders.
We finished off our snow day activity with the go to hot chocolate. Or as it should be called in C's world marshmallow chocolate soup. After his nap, Carter rode with me in the bike trailer to pick up Owen (Owen's toddler school was open for President's Day while Carter's was closed - same owner, different buildings = blog frustration to share for another day). With most of the snow melted, I asked where he thought it went. He thought it went into the ground, to another country, and then onto Minnesota for Gisa & Grandpa. Look out guys -- it seems winter isn't over for you yet!
