So, it wasn't bad enough that my VOLS got beat down this weekend. It seems like fate wanted to increase my suffering on my way home from my Sunday group ride. I was less than a mile from the house when my new titanium ride met the unfortunate acquaintance of a early 90s sedan rolling through a stop sign.
After a complete flip over the car, I landed on my feet- like Kerri Strug in the Olympics, but I stumbled and slid, probably eliminating any chances at the gold.
Amazingly, all of my extremities were still working and connected. After a visit to the back of an ambulance (Erin called the Police to report the accident and they brought Fire and EMTs), I was informed by the unsympathetic officer that I was getting a ticket for not having a light on my bike, "per state law." It wasn't dark when I was hit, but at this point in the process, it was. Since the officer could not write any tickets related to the accident (no witnesses), he felt obligated to write a ticket to someone...and it ended up going to me. Somehow, the guy who ran through a stop sign, did not yield to pedestrian/biker, and smashed a biker did not end up with a ticket. You would think I wouldn't WANT to hit a car on a bike, right? However, this logic escaped the officer, and I took the pieces of my bike, and my ticket home. Thanks to our neighbors "the Doctors" (Eric & Lisa) fo
r making a late night house call to save me from a trip to the ER. I am starting to heal: pretty deep cut on my shin, bruised/swollen knee, and stiff all over... kinda like I was hit by a Florida linebacker. I'm still waiting on the prognosis on my bike. I hope we can rebuild it like the Six Million Dollar Man, but on a smaller budget. Thanks for reading...

Bill - Yikes! Hope all heals quickly. ~KSP
Oh no!! Glad you're OK! That is terrible about the ticket. The nerve! What did the guy in the car say? They must've been pretty shaken up about it too?? Not as much as you, of course! Love the pictures and the Kerri Strug analogy!
Bill - Truly a tough break - glad to hear that you are OK. I do see the silver lining though...these drawings of yours are next level. Almost like a "Life is Good" theme. Maybe you could revive the "Oh no Mr. Bill" theme. Bike rides, Home improvement projects, changing diapers, spousal arguments could all carry this theme. This is the start of something big. I know it.
Bill, we hope you and your bike are doing OK!! That's scary. Also, if you make it 3 months with the cloth diaper service we'll give you 20 bucks. Do you have any idea how many times a day a newborn poops =-) Have fun!
