Easter festivities are getting bigger each year for the Schwangstons. This year, Ms. Schwangston again brought out the eggs and basket to "orient" Carter and make sure he was "hunt ready" when the time was right for school and church. Carter was definitely excited about the "practice." We were able to see that success is due to a combination of preparation and opportunity.
Carter managed to find a full basket of "opportunity" in his school's hunt on Thursday. He even found a few of the other kids' as well. Thankfully, he shared.
Mommy separated the egg's "fillings" to make sure that C didn't have anything unsafe. The verdict was that only stickers and fruit snacks were safe; the rest was safer for Mommy. I look for this trend to continue for the next 10 years.
A side-effect of all the "training" may have lead to Carter's close attachment to the basket and eggs. He wanted to be with the basket at all times. After the school hunt, his classmates put away their baskets to play on the playground. Carter was not going for this. I explained that Daddy would keep it safe, but he felt more comfortable with keeping the basket. If the VOLS' running backs had the mentality of this two year old, we'd never have a turnover. So, he hit the slide with basket in hand. He made three more trips up and down. To my complete surprise, C never lost an egg. Maybe the basket was safer with him?
After the playground, we went inside for pizza. Carter was finally separated from the basket and was told he'd get it back when he went home. So, what did he do? He came over and simply requested "Daddy, I wanna go bye-bye". "Carter how about some juice?", "Pizza?", "Want to sit with cousin Matthew? Daddy? Aunt Amy..."
"No, bye-bye, Daddy." After about 10-15 min of unsuccessful toddler reasoning, I acquiesced and we went home.
Carter has a little more freedom in his "big boy bed" environment. Even if he is tucked in without a basket, eggs, and friends, they some how find a way to join him later. I'm sure it is the Easter Bunny, right?
Wish us luck as we gradually phase out Easter at the house. Hopefully, Mommy will come down slowly from her sugar high and that we can refocus Carter's enthusiasm in pulling weeds or something. Hope you all enjoyed the weekend and had some of the great weather we've been enjoying here.
Thanks for reading...

Dan and I worked in the yard this weekend and commented how things would have gone quicker if we flew Carter in for the weekend. He was a big help in January even though we didn't have any cool "stuff" for him to collect.
Who could blame Carter for not wanting to relinquish the basket? He must have known that if mom got her hands on it she would make it "safe" for him. Poor guy... all that work - hours of training - for some stickers and crumby fruit snacks.
I love the terms "safe" and "unsafe" and have until now successfully confiscated all of Lyd's "unsafe" candy- especially the cadbury eggs! Sadly those days are over now that she is 4. Schwie you are looking great!
