Big Kids Weekend

With the Ms. and O in Nashvegas this weekend, the Schwangston house was left to just the "Big Kids" as C described it. Despite the heat (still topping over triple figures daily here), we managed to venture out of the house to find some trouble.

Quick Recap

Friday night: Pizza. This shouldn't be noteworthy except you have a better chance getting C to eat a brussel sprout than two bites of pizza. Seriously. He warmed up to it in Minnesota, and I thought it might be a good chance for us to split one. It was a success. The first of many...

Saturday morning: it is crazy hot here right now, and I wanted to go to a Splash Park to get some outside activity while it was decent (you know, only 94 degrees). After battling a stubborn headwind and an impatient toddler, "Is it that park Daddy? That one?" - we passed about four in the 10 mile bike ride to the park - we made it! It was good stuff, and C was popular because we brought toys (a floating turtle and ball). We did some sharing and made several friends. We'll definitely be back.

Sat. afternoon: after balking at our afternoon nap, I made a run down to the bike shop to drop one of my bikes off. C test rode every run/stride bike, tricycle, and a couple tiny bikes in the place. Despite it being really busy, he managed to get some good laps around the shop b/f we took off to hit the grocery store.

Sunday morning: after sleeping in past church, we hit another couple playgrounds before coming back to rest & recuperate before picking up the Ms. and O from the airport.

Some highs and lows from the last 40 hours

-Setting the table Saturday morning for Breakfast..."for Mommy, Daddy, Owen, Gisa, Tyler, Jake, KT, K10...." He is almost ready for Thanksgiving.

-Spilling nearly a quart of Kool-Aid on the floor trying to "Help Daddy". Afterwards, he put the towel "in timeout" for not getting it all up.

-Getting a snow cone from the guy behind us in line, after the park snow cone stand couldn't break a $10 (seriously on a August day in Texas?). Grumpy guy wouldn't comp the two year old. Thanks to the Good Samaritan - you try reasoning with a toddler on why he can't get a snow cone that he was promised for getting out of the pool.

-Puking in the car on the way to Sunday brunch, which we promptly skipped, after swinging in the tire swing with a 6 yr. old kid that made it spin like one of those NASA astronaut tests. We have some work to do if we're going to make the Mars Mission in 2030.

-Not taking a nap and beating on the window, after I came back from our out-of-town neighbors' house to complete a request to turn the AC down. You'd think he was a POW signaling for rescue or something (pic to the left).

-Pitching shut-out baseball all weekend on the potty training front. He's been solid for a while now, but this weekend wasn't our typical routine. C stepped up (puke doesn't count, right?).

-Good night prayers by C include "We don't Spit, We don't Kick, and We don't Hit! - Amen" - Amen indeed.

Thanks for reading...

Sounds like a great guys weekend. Its a good thing you can't see the chain around C's ankle or the buzz collar around his neck in the picture. If it gets any hotter you guys could always come out to San Diego, its supposed to be hot this week... maybe even hit 75.

Love the night-night prayers and glad to see that I scored a place setting for breakfast.
