Halloween is a big event for the Schwangstons. It used to be pumpkins, big candy bars, etc., but with our growing costumed kiddos, like everything, it has gone to another level.
This year's festivities started with an event that I'm hoping to make a new Halloween Tradition: The Costumed Cyclocross Race. A local race promoter put on "Spooky Cross" encouraging racers to dress up and race on the 30th. I went to look for a costume on Friday and found a Dinosaur Head (from Toy Story) that I could fit over my helmet. Unfortunately, I was only one of two costumed riders on race day, and the only one in my category. Unfortunate for my fellow racers was that they got beat by some fool wearing a dinosaur costume. I went out fast and led from the gun - fighting off hyperventilation to hold on to my first CX victory (in or out of costume). It was a small field, but I was proud of my victory nonetheless. I managed to win the costume prize (even less competition than my race) so it was a sweep and a great start to the weekend.
After attending the "Fall-Festival" at our church in the morning, we picked up our usual Two Minute Offense of pumpkin carving/Halloween prep while the boys rested. Carter napped for 3hrs, perhaps knowing that he needed his reserves for what was ahead of him. Ms. Schwangston stepped up this year and carved her first ever pumpkin (see the Dinosaur on the video). Like any new undertaking, she used measured steps and was very careful in her carving. So much that her first pass didn't penetrate through the pumpkin. The results were a solid T-Rex that was complemented by the Trick or Treat crowd later that night.
Finally ready, with C and O dressed for the event, we hit the street. We originally planned a limited number of houses (3-4 peeps on our street), but after Carter built some Halloween mojo, he was asking about every house that we walked by, "Daddy does that house work?" So, we hit them all. If C had his way, we would have hit some twice. Upon our return, C dumped his loot like a ToT veteran while the Ms. sorted through for an appropriate treat for the evening. C finished the night waiting for "Big Kids" to come by so he could hand out candy until late in the evening. Hope your night was as much fun, and enjoy the video (watch it in full screen for the HD baby).
