Sleeping in the New Year?

Uh, no. As we prepare to ring in the New Year, Owen Phillips Langston is 7mo old and has slept through the night a total of zero times. With Mr. & Ms. Schwangston splitting nights, it means neither of us have been able to both sleep through the night in SEVEN WHOLE MONTHS.

I've learned a few things in this experience. You can survive on two 3.5 hr naps per night until about 5:30pm. At this point, you are so tired, you can't complete thoughts and might have trouble reading bedtime stories clearly.

A recent example occurred when I was cutting my hair a few days ago. I normally us a #7 or #8 guard for the top, but for some reason I began cutting with a #4. I realized this after large clumps of hair were falling off my head. I've been cutting my hair for 10 years and never done this. However, it was like I was in third person and just watching this happen. Of the three males in the house, I now have the shortest hair and appear ready for the draft.

However when it is your turn to sleep (provided you haven't trained yourself to wake up 2 or more times) and you get 8hrs of uninterrupted sleep, you feel like you are on drugs. Seriously, I've told many people I'm sure that I'm feeling just what Barry Bonds must have felt as he was launching pitches out of the park pumped full of HGH.

I've been told that 1 in 6 babies are sleeping through the night at 6-7 months. However it seems that every baby I know is sleeping through the night (baby Remy excluded - lo siento KT and Dan). I try not to be cynical and jaded towards these people, but honestly, I'm convinced that these babies will grow up to be mouthy teenagers, not do their homework, stay out past curfew and keep their parents up late with worry. I'm sure that our night owl baby will be winning science awards and working on his class president acceptance speech.

I will continue to think this until O starts putting together some solid 6hr blocks of sleeping. If you have any tips don't be shy, b/c the only thing I have going for me now is the $ I'm saving on shampoo.

Happy New Year and thanks for reading (note big brother soundly sleeping mid-nap book reading below)...Bill
