With the balmy (haha - felt like the coldest day since Feb) mid-40s weather with chilly, damp rain this late afternoon, we kept our planting date with our neighbor and former landlord, Mrs. J. She is an avid gardner and kept 2 sunflower transplants that will grow 10ft tall for the boys after a recent volunteer work day at the NC Botanical Gardens (and I still need to visit it - I think that Dad has been).
We picked a sunny spot with a good view from our porch and breakfast nook - we just had to dig out an existing gardening "spot" from the previous owners. We found worms and good soil - best news about our yard in a long time. Both boys added "special" earth-friendly deer repellant - aka organic, nasty smelling stuff of old egg yolks and cayenne pepper. Welcome to Chapel Hill and deer heaven - keep our plants and wild animals alive, please.
As we planted, Bill continued to dig up other "treasures" in our junk yard, I mean yard, of the Project. You can see him above in the background as he pulled out 2 tires and 34+ bricks (C counted) from that part of the yard.
We also added another 4-5 pieces to our growing slate path...
And many cinder blocks...
And then there is our pile/stack of random, "we need to take a trip to the landfill" staging area of the driveway. Most items on the right have come from various parts of the yard, the hood items are original kitchen hood/vent removal items and the left is more bulkhead cabinet removal a la Bill and Clark (and beyond that is a cabinet demo from our downstairs bathroom renov.)...
Kind of scary that I just gave you a tour of our expanding junk yard stack...our neighbors just love us :)
