So, most of you know I've got a thing for bicycles. However, until a month ago I haven't really raced. I've been riding in charity rides, fast group rides, and everything in-between, but stopped short of racing. With my new wheels and lil' schwangston on the way, I decided this is the year to see what I've got.
I bought a race license and started showing up a weekly race series in Fort Worth last month. After 25minutes of racing, I got second! Not bad for my first shot. Then I caught it – the RACE FEVER, baby. I started showing up for the race each week for the next 3 weeks. I placed 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd each time. I was becoming spoiled on my success and wondering if I was becoming the Susan Lucci of the bike-racing scene.
Last week, I finally broke through. I chased down the leader on the last lap and passed him on the line. Blue ribbon and gold medal for Billy! I was so proud I wore my medal to the grocery store on the way home. I caught a few strange looks from some folks while buying some post-race bananas, but I'm sure they were nervous this sweaty thirty-year-old guy had just joined G-Unit or something. If they knew this was the first race I won since the big wheels in Kindergarten I’m sure they'd understand.
Thanks for reading...
***BLOG UPDATE*** I'm on a roll! Just got back from the race tonight, and have another gold medal! I've going to need some professional help with my RACE FEVER!
(Erin wanted me to point out that I'm the guy first on the left in case you were wondering if I was putting a random pic of guys in spandex)

Woo Hoo Bill!! Congrats! KSP
Bill,
That is halarious...you sound just like Derrall was with the 5Ks. After you get a taste of the race, that's all she wrote!
Any names yet for Baby Langston?

Congratulations!!! That is quite an accomplishment! The Bloomers are cheering for you all the way from Orlando.
Billy,
I am so proud of you!! Oh yea, I would have worn the medal all day long too. Maybe the big wheel was just a training race? Watch out Texas, Billy has arrived!
