Five years ago in the middle of my running hiatus, I decided to lace 'em up for a 5 mile run on Thanksgiving that my sister was doing. K10 started a tradition of running it every year, and we decided to participate since we were in town.
In my inaugural participation, I trained by running from the parking lot to the grocery store (when it was raining). Defiantly, I thought that thousands of cycling miles in my legs would carry me through this effort with ease. While I survived the run, I was nearly paralyzed for the next two days. The muscles in my legs seized, and my back was as stiff as a piece of petrified wood. No amount of Advil could save me from the suffering I endured during the rest of the holiday.
It should be noted that this was the last time I ran more than 10 yards in any direction. Fast forward to present day, our Thanksgiving plans have me preregisted for my second participation in this "tradition". This time I've decided to commit to training for it this year. I bought some new kicks (I've been mowing the lawn in my old "running shoes" for 5 years), and have been hitting the streets. So far, I've done about 5-6 runs of about 3-6miles each. I've even brought lil' C to help motivate me like Mick in Rocky. I'm slower than I remember, but my aches and pains are accelerating rapidly. Wish me luck...

Run Billy Run!
Good luck! I look forward to race results.
Are you doing the Boulevard Bolt? I had been running regularly from April til August, then my work schedule changed and I lost all motivation. I think I will go get me some new shoes and get back on track! Good luck with the training and race! -Rachel
Good luck Bill! I'll be looking for results as well as a video, Chariots of Fire theme =-)

Rach- Yes it is the Boulevard Bolt- are you going to be in Nashvegas too? You should come out!
With shoes like that, how can you lose? Looking forward to hearing about the result. Good luck!
No, we don't usually come home for Thanksgiving anymore. You have to pick and choose your holidays in healthcare so we take more time at Christmas. I like the course for the Bolt, though. I think I will go get my new shoes today to get me motivated to train for an 8K here on the 23rd. Again, good luck! -Rachel
