Earth Hour Dallas

Maybe some of you have heard about this. Earth Hour started in 2007 Sydney when the Aussies turned off all non-essential lights for one hour. Now it is a Global Event, taking place the last Saturday in March. This year Dallas went dark, kinda.

Erin & I managed a milagro to score a last minute baby sitter.  We were able to get out and meet up with the doctors, and some of Erin's work colleagues at the Belmont Hotel on the outside of downtown Dallas, a prime spot to watch this city's skyline go dark.

We didn't get any great pics b/c people were packed in, and I would have just captured the top of dozens of people's heads. So these pictures (top=before bottom=after, uh kind of) help you visualize. It wasn't as dark as we were hoping b/c of street lights etc, but it was definitely noticeable. Local power estimated 10-12% savings were realized for that hour.

Not to go activist on our readership (I'll leave to the pro - Ms. Schwangston), but in our economy, it only makes more sense to look at things like this.  Call it "green" if you want, but it is really just working to create efficiencies and savings, modifying our lives without the excess and waste Americans have grown used to. We need to start "using the whole buffalo" or at least make hot dogs out of his feet. The results would be a better environment.  Even better, maybe C and his peeps won't have to pay our $11 trillion national debt?

Thanks for reading...
