The Special Trip... (pt.1)

The Schwangstons have been like a traveling circus over the past couple of weekends. Two weeks ago, it was Memphis. This past weekend - Houston/the Woodlands (blog post coming). We've told Carter that we're going on a "Special Trip", and then a "New Special Trip" for each voyage out on the road. So much that each time we get in the car he asks, "Daddy, are we going on a special trip?" To which I reply, "yes, we are going home".

Highlights of the Memphis Trip include:

      • Multiple trips to the Peabody Hotel to see the Ducks. Carter might be disappointed to learn that most hotels don't have them.
      • Getting Happy Birthday sung to C by Blind Mississippi Morris at Mandy's Rehearsal Dinner. The dinner was at the Center Southern Folklore, a very cool art museum~ish, and the boys (both C and O) were like angels.
      • Trip to the Rendezvous. Official scoring had the Ms. eating a rib, but C is still 0-Rendezvous.
      • Hanging with peeps. Jeremy (thanks for the roof over our heads and all the toys for C).
      • Julie, Bryce & Kate - it was great to introduce Kate to matchbox cars on a playground. Memphis Pizza Kitchen was solid as well.
      • Mandy's wedding was great, great everything...the church, flowers, dress all delivered. Jamie was OK too.
      • Special shout outs go to the food at the reception (@the Peabody). The BBQ, Groom's Cake, and Chocolate Covered Strawberries (see pic) were so good that I wanted to put them in my jacket pockets and take some back for later - don't worry, I didn't.
      • Finally, we really need to mention the impressive behavior by the red-headed children on this trip. Spending 16+ hours in the car coming and going. Both were pitching shut out baseball. Owen slept about all but about 45min, and Carter was awake for all of it but 1.5hrs. Both were great, and for that me and the Mrs. are grateful.
        Thanks for reading...

Love it! So happy we got to see you and finally meet baby O (or as I like to call him, Campbell). We're glad you had a good time - we did too! :) Oh, and FYI, we had a little battle over the strawberries. Jamie said he thought the idea was "disgusting." But I insisted and said we needed them because most people expect a groom's cake to be chocolate, so we needed SOMETHING chocolate!
