The most wonderful time of the year...

That's right, it is almost upon us. Not Christmas, bowl season!

In a couple of weeks, the holidays will be preempted with daily football games for almost two weeks. Pure greatness. To really celebrate this special time, Erin and I compete for the Schwangston Bowl every year. Each year, we print a sheet of the bowl schedule and flip a coin to see who will pick first. Then we alternate games, picking every other game so that we are pulling for opposite teams in every game. Now the matchup of Boise State vs. East Carolina just got interesting. You receive one point for a favorite and two for an upset. The winner used to get a month off of mowing the lawn, but Erin went and got pregnant last year to get out of that one. Please comment on any good suggestions for the wager this year.

As for our VOLS, I don't know what to say. I'm not sure which is worse -- not getting to the SEC championship or getting there and letting the game slip away. Hopefully this year, we can end our season with a bowl win for the first time in a few years. As disappointed as we were with the VOLS, the BCS madness that followed our game did elevate our spirits. While three or four teams are thinking that they should be in the game - let's be honest. The National Championship is played every year in Atlanta on the first Saturday in December. Every year that the SEC gets a team in the title game, they've won (3-3 soon to be 4-4 w/LSU). No other conference can say that. So whoever gets through the SEC regular season and can get in that game - it's over. They've already played in tougher, bigger games. The South has done it before, but this time I think the we should preserve the Union and the SEC should secede from college football. Until we get a playoff where each conference champ can contend, let the other conferences eat at the kids table with the computer championship and let us just play with grownups.

Thanks for reading...

Love the Scwangston bowl! Great idea. Good way to have fun and forget that the VOLS were a disappointment....again.
