Carter's 6 months stats:
Weight 15lbs 6.4oz, Height 2ft 1 1/4in (he's a big boy now, it's no longer stated as length and in inches). Still on the lower end of percentiles - nothing to worry about - he's just an active little fella and proportional all around.
Tried a "food" other than breastmilk tonight at dinner. Rice cereal - a tiny bit mixed with breastmilk. He was not a fan and not too interested in swallowing. Any tips on how to teach a baby to swallow? It's pretty hard to spoon it since it was so liquidy - but it will get a bit thicker every time we offer it. He'll be on this for about a week before we try another type of cereal and then onto fruit/veggies slowly.
First spoonful
One of the more mild reaction faces
I would just rather eat my straps
Other than that, still lots of teething. I am trying to get a pic of the bottom teeth - easier said than done. Carter's so on the verge of crawling - he's not too interested in rolling around at all. He gets up on all fours, does lots of kicking, moves his knees, can't figure out what to do with the arms, and face plants. It's tiring us just to watch all his concentration and work. It's just both physically and mentally trying to put it all together...almost there, boy! Guess it's time to baby proof the house?
Have a good night friends, Erin

What a big boy! Just keep giving him the food. After a few times he'll gobble it up. Sawyer now eats anything we offer and he likes the cereal to be thick. When it's too watery it just dribbles out. Have fun with all the mess! Becky
One of these days its all going to click for Carter and he is going to be zooming all over your house. He's almost there!!!
You could try putting the cereal in a bottle mixed with breast milk and seeing if swallows it that way.
With Dean I had to mix it a bit thick with breast milk and use a really tiny spoon. He gobbled it right up and now eats like a champ. Warm it up a bit too. Carter is probably use to the warmth of your milk.
Since Carter is teething you might want to rub some on his lower teeth as well and let him suck on that.
Good luck and congrats on the great check up! 6 months, you should give yourselves a great pat on the back!
Have you heard about baby-led weaning/feeding? Essentially, you skip the pureed mush and let baby feed themselves. No risk of parent shoveling in too much or overfilling on solids (and lowering the amount of breastmilk, which is more nutritious, fattier and better for development than any food).
FYI - ability to swallow is one of the signs of readiness for solids. If it dribbles out, wait a week or two to try again. :) Solids are so optional at this stage for breastfed babies that it isn't even funny.
So many comments that make no sense to the non-parent readership of your blog....I just don't understand?? Any way I like cheerios if we are talking about cereal.
