Happy Birthday Mrs. Schwangston!

Yesterday we celebrated the day that Erin came into the world. Carter and I kicked it off by bringing lunch to her at work, where we were both overwhelmed with the level of activity in Erin's office. Carter's shock wore off eventually, and he spent some time in the afternoon charming the staff in city hall.

Later that evening, we had a nice dinner of blackened salmon with sweet potato fries. One of our neighbors, Lisa, came over to have a drink and enjoy some of Erin's red velvet cupcake cake and ice cream.

Erin is pictured below with her birthday present from me. It is a 55 gallon trash can converted to be a "composting can." She read about composting weeks ago and asked that I look into getting it started as a birthday present. Normally, people that compost have gardens, but we are the anti-gardeners and kill most plants which, coincidentally, make good compost -- so we should be in great composting shape. Seriously, she is just looking to cut down on the amount of trash that we produce each week, and maybe help those long suffering plants out in the process.

Thanks for reading...

Happy (late) birthday. Is it just me or is it true that the older we get the more "practical" our birthday presents get?

Composting is fun! I still have my fingers crossed that it makes up for all those disposable diapers we're using. :)
