TN traditions (smushed into only 50 hours)

About a month ago, Owen and I flew to Nashvegas for a super quick trip for my XO pledge class reunion.  Every time we  get near the state of TN, I have a compulsion to schedule every minute since the next trip home is TBD.  It's my very own TN tradition that Bill tiredly tolerates if he is along for the ride.

Early Friday 8/13, I got up at 4am, finished packing (yes, unheard of for this organizer), and we headed to Dallas Love Field.  I ran into a City colleague who works at Love at 7.15am, so she escorted me and O through security.  So nice to have that extra set of hands for the stroller and car seat break down at security.  Of course, O was a rockstar at his then 11.5 weeks of age, earning his second flight. Woo hoo. Can I just say for a moment how much I LOVE Southwest when flying solo with a kid?

Got in town, Pat picked us up. Cleaned up and ate. O and I hit a random Starbucks in Smyrna to meet Ash for coffee. Raleigh was recovering from a contagious illness, so she was kept her away from the little guy.

Then we met Guns for a drink at Rumba off West End - yes it was a "baby...in a bar" (name that movie. Elizabeth didn't know, even though said actress is from Nashville).  It was a very hip place but she let me know that it's hip to have babies dine in Nashville. I learned the saga of the flood on her poor new house - what a nightmare.

Things were going smoothly logistically, so of course we finally got stuck in rush hour traffic, We were late to the delish "Family Dinner" that Pat cooked.  O met Aunt K10, Dr Uncle and Uncle Dan for the first time - he was a big hit.   We both went to bed pretty tired.

On Saturday, I slept in a smidge (til 7.15, but several nursing sessions in the night. Don't envy us with a great sleeping baby. He was not and still is not there yet) since C wasn't around to request a potty visit, breakfast and a TV show before the clcok hits 6.30.

O and I then hit the road to Brentwood at 8:30. I got lost and there are no Starbucks off of the Concord Road exit.  I showed up to sweet Lucy's 4th bday party to see a bunch of 1/2 naked runners next to the purple and pink princess decorations.  I was interested in what kind of entertainment Freeman booked.

Apparently a 5k borrowed the reserved park pavilion and the Freeman girls quickly took over and regained posession while relocating all of the runners gear since they were on the course.  It was SO hot/humid, but it all worked out great. At the party, I visited with Freeman family (and met lil Avery for the first time) and chatted with some ole AOPis too.

I told Bill on the phone - "there is Snow White and a pink dress blonde women."  Another mom overheard me and said - "you must have boys.  That's Sleeping Beauty."  Right.  But I did know that Lucy was Cinderella in her pretty blue dress and big bow (above).

We escaped the heat and the party a little early to hit the XO family morning. We missed most of the play time but hit McAllisters across the parking lot.  After lunch, we headed to Jess' house to hang with the hubbies while all the kids (and Stephen) tried to nap.

Stephen's nap didn't really work out for him.  He and Bryce asked more than once how Bill managed to miss the activities.  Like we were in Massey, Jules and I harassed poor Jess about her monkey and we all had a good laugh.

Tired yet? I am just thinking of all that we did. I managed to get a quick 30 min power nap before handing O over to Pat for the evening.  Hopped in the car to head to Julie's casa in West Meade.

I won't recap the fiesta again, but to Pat's surprise, I got home about 12:30am. Quickly relieved her and gave O his extra bottle. Up at 4:30am Sunday for a feeding and couldn't sleep. So, I packed, drove over to Starbucks (none in Donelson - it was Hermitage?). K10 awoke exrta early to say bye before the airport run at 7:45am.

It was an awesome, much-needed trip to see some of my bestest friends.  O was a flying champ. I was home by 1pm Sunday, so I even got to hang out with C and Bill some too before back to work on Monday!  Yep, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!   :) Erin
