With Easter just around the corner, I found myself debating this topic at the grocery store just the other day. As I was picking up a couple caramel-filled Cadbury Eggs for Mrs. Schwangston, I wondered...is Easter candy better than Halloween? It kind of snuck up on me because I've always thought of Halloween as #1 in the BCS of Candy Holidays. As I was taking stock of the of the variety of Easter sweets in the "Seasonal" aisle, I realized Easter had beefed up its roster with several blue chip prospects that warranted attention.
I did what you do when you are struggling with a situation like this -- reached out to an expert. I called my sister, K10. I gave her the summary of my conundrum, and after a discussion of eggs v. fun size, I couldn't find the resolution that I was looking for. Next, I tried to google gross sales stats for each holiday, but it seems that the candy makers aren't giving those up (probably some Valentine homer trying to grab the 3rd spot from Christmas). So, I'm opening the debate to the Schwangston readership to help me out.
So take out the romance of trick or treating, Halloween parties, Easter Egg hunts, or baskets left behind by Harvey. Just look at the tale of the tape, candy vs. candy and let me know who is #1...
- Mixed-Up Candy (i.e. Tootsie Rolls, Dots, Sweettarts)
- Candy Corn
- Fun Size Everything (Snickers, Twix, Butterfinger, Reese's etc)
- Black/Orange Peanut Butter Chewy Candy
- Bit-O-Honey
- the old school apple & penny
- Cadbury Eggs (Original & Mrs. Schwangston's fav. Caramel)
- Peeps (Bunnies & Chicks)
- Russell Stover Eggs (Marshmallow & diff. filled chocolate cov'd eggs)
- Jelly Beans
- Robin Eggs
- Chocolate Bunnies
- the original hard boiled painted egg.
I'm sure I'm leaving out some regulars here, so feel free to add so that I can have an accurate sampling. Thanks in advance for your contribution in resolving this important issue. Because it is an election year, I thought the best thing is to put it to vote.
Happy Easter and thanks for reading...

EASTER! I always look forward to Valentine's because the next day they put out the Easter candy. I love all of those you mentioned but my all time favorite are those colorful candy eggs with a marshmellowy inside. Plus- there is nothing especially marketed for HAlloween except candy corn (which is pretty great). It's really just regular candy vs Easter candy- and to me it's Easter candy all the way (just like the Vols - I hope!)
The Schwie sisters may be partial to Easter because our Mom always had plenty of Cadbury eggs to go around.
Me, I love the BLACK jellybeans!!!
Easter, hands down!
Friend of Katie, doing my civic duty and voting for Easter. Give me Peeps and Cadbury Original over Candy Corn and those orange wrapper things.
Although if you find those wax coke bottles that my grandmother use to give out, I might have to change my vote.
After just eating more than my share of Easter candy, I vote for Easter. The variety is unmatched! Billy take note I was not the only person to like the candy coated marshmallow eggs!! I am not alone!!!! Sugar rules!!! Peeps for President... OK maybe my sugar vs oxygen ratio is off?? I should go eat an apple, right after I finish this Cadbury egg! Until next year easter candy, you will me missed!!
