A funny thing happened on the way...

...to the car, not the forum . At least it's funnier now, one week removed. About 4 pm last Tuesday, I was leaving early to pick up Carter. Bill is now partaking in the Tuesday night bike rides at the lake. Long day, tired mom and keys in hand ready to jump into the car and beat rush hour traffic.
Except that this tired mom apparently loosened her grip on them just as she walked onto the elevator. Like slow motion in the movies when the narrator's deep voice/brain drawls N O O O O, the keys fell.
They rested on the lip of the opening for an eternity. And oh so slowly, but way too fast - down the chute they went. Clink, clink, clink as they fell from 4th floor to sub ground 3rd floor.

A long story much shorter - Bill got to stick with this bike ride, I caught a ride home with an employee who lives in Fort Worth, and Amy/Mark picked up both the boys at School. Since the elevator contractor tech charges mucho for after hours, I avoided the indeterminate wait, $500 fee, and got the keys back Wed. morning, free of charge.  The remote clicker works, the bent key has yet to be tested out.

Major thanks to the Collums for the emergency Carter care!

Oh that does not sound like a good day, but it is a funny blog post :) I am glad you got your keys back.

Sounds like a Seinfeld episode! I dropped mine once down the front seat of the car after already locking it and shutting the door (didn't realize I dropped them til it was too late). Audrey was in the car sleeping in the 90 degree FL weather. A fire truck and ambulance showed up to rescue us. SO EMBARASSING!
