Relaxing Weekend...

We had a quiet weekend this past weekend -- no travels, no company coming to the house, no big events really at all.  Just relaxing with friends and family over the long weekend.  Before you think that we just laid around the house (not that would be bad), a few unphotographed but blogworthy events in the Schwangston weekend:
  • Trip to the FTW Zoo.  Like most parents of a toddler, we are now members.  It was an early Dad's Day gift from E&C to me.  I'm hoping that there will be 12 days of Father's Day, or something, so hopefully presents will fall down like rain - but remember I'm just hoping.
  • Good BBQ at Mark & Amy's, with some of Erin's extended family from Houston.  C played with man-child cousin Matthew and second-cousin baby Kaydence. C was very sweet with her, which is nice to see, now if he could just be nicer to Mommy everyone would be happy.
  • Quality miles on my bike, with a few with C in the trailer.  An unfortunate trip was picking him up from the Collum's for a quick pre-dinner ride.  Before strapping C in, it started POURING.  Luckily, our trailer has the "optional" raincover that worked great.  When I ducked under a pavilion to see if he needed a snorkel, I found the vinyl cover fogged up and C was taking a nap in his rolling baby sauna.  Nice.
Now to the highlights.  My main objective of the weekend was taking C to the Texas State Crit Championships (bike race).   I was hoping for good weather so we could enjoy watching the racers.  C seemed interested in it for a lap or two, pointing out "dada" (the racers), and all the dogs accompanying the spectators.

After ~15 minutes of his restlessness, Ms. Schwangston decided to visit a nearby dog with C. They made fast friends with a dog, kid, mom, another prego, the kid's wagon, and balloon. In less than 10 min, C had the wagon to himself - climbing, opening doors, just owning it.  Mi casa, su casa in the toddler world.  The kid did treat C to a serious bite on his finger but you could hardly blame him.  After some serious toddler wrangling,  C went back in his stroller.
Instead of grocery shopping on Monday, C and I decided to do fun non-adult stuff.  We played inside for a few minutes before asking to go "out?".  C quickly found his shoes and hat - amazing how he knows exactly what to do when he wants something and "out" we went.

We keep it low-tech on outside toys, mostly balls and buckets to fill with water.  Carter got pretty aggressive splashing, with a few mischievous moves towards daddy.  I decided to just turn on the front sprinkler to finish the job. For 10minutes, Carter and the front bushes enjoyed an afternoon sprinkle in the shade.  With 4+ months of serious heat/sun coming, he will have many more water days to keep him from going wild inside and combusting outside.
All in all a solid weekend.  Hope yours was just as fun. Thanks for reading...
