Carter participated in his first Easter Egg Hunt with his 18mo class today. Knowing that this event was coming up, Mrs. Schwangston, like any good parent, wanted to make sure he was prepared. Starting last week she staged a few "practice hunts" in the house to ensure that he got the hang of it.
When the kids finished the snack, Carter quickly went to the window to see what was going on outside. His eyes got big, and he began to clap when he saw the eggs. He knew what to do. Promptly the teachers released the toddlers to the playground to go "hunt for eggs".
While parents were pointing and saying things like "look there's one" or "don't put it in your mouth," C took off like a bullet and quickly grabbed two eggs. After a short "disagreement" on who should hold the basket (I thought he would do better if I held it, but he was determined to go it alone), he continued to gobble up eggs two by two.
Each child was supposed to collect 12 eggs, but since Carter achieved this mark in the first minute or so, I was at a quandary of what to do next. I thought it would be a disservice to his mother's coaching, and a poor message to my son, to let him shoot for just the status quo.
I decided to keep the first team in the game and run up the score a la Spurrier. After Carter gobbled up so many eggs that his basket could barely hold them, we decided to let the JV have a shot, so we played on the slide. When parents noticed Carter's haul, I told them that he "practiced with Mommy." They all agreed that the practice paid off. Instead of being embarrassed by his overflowing basket of goodies, I was quite proud. These parents should've have prepared their kids for a hunt with the progeny of the uber-competitive Schwangston's.

Carter is the man! These other parents better step their games up.
You guys are so funny! Tell Erin that I do the same thing. Make them practice so you can eat all their candy!
Great job Carter, I could not be more proud!!!
Happy almost Easter!
So funny! Look how red his hair is!
Happy Easter to the Schwangstons!
Had dinner w/Heidi and Aunt Rita last night and had to tell this tale. Heidi said she would do the EXACT same thing as Er (competitiveness runs in family, maybe?). Can't wait to see y'all soon. Lots of love. KT
